There are three ways to obtain licensure to work as a Certified Shorthand Reporter in the State of Idaho:

1. Application by Endorsement
This is the most popular method by which a license can be obtained to work as a Certified Shorthand Reporter in the State of Idaho. If you are a working reporter who holds any of the following certifications (RPR, RMR, RDR, CRR, CRC) and can prove that you have been working three out of the last five years, you will be granted a license to work as a Certified Shorthand Reporter in the State of Idaho. This is the result of a change in law enacted in July of 2019 to make it easier for qualified reporters to come work in the state of Idaho.

 2. Certification Application
This method of obtaining a license is ideal for new or working reporters who have recently passed one of the following national certifications and wish to obtain an Idaho Certified Shorthand Reporters license (RPR, RMR, RDR, CRR, CRC).If you have passed any these certifications within two years of the date you wish to apply for your Idaho Certified Shorthand Reporter license, you will be granted a license to work in the State of Idaho.

The application to obtain a license as a result of passing an exam within the last two years can be found at:                                                          https://ibol.idaho.gov/IBOL/SRE/Forms/SRE%20Certification%20application.pdf

 3. Temporary License                                                                                                                                                                                                                     The temporary license is ideal for students who have just graduated from an NCRA-approved school and wish to begin working as a reporter in the State of Idaho or for a working reporter who holds only a CSR from another state with no other national certifications. Applying for a temporary license grants you one year to work in Idaho while working to obtain either your Idaho CSR certification or RPR certification through NCRA. During that year, if you pass one leg of either the Idaho CSR or RPR, you are eligible to have your temporary license extended another year. If after two years, you have not successfully passed your Idaho CSR or RPR, your temporary license will expire and you will no longer be able to work in the state of Idaho until you pass such exam.
